Main trends in research activity :
Investigation of weldability of aluminium and magnesium alloys. Development of the technology of welding different-purpose structures, including the development of a specialized equipment and welding consumables, namely: - study of weldability of new structural materials on the base of aluminium and magnesium, composite materials with aluminium matrix and dissimilar materials;
- origin of hot welding cracks and development of methods of their elimination in welding new high-strength complexly-alloyed alloys, in particular alloys of aluminium and magnesium with lithium;
- interaction of weld pool with gases, development of methods of degassing of the molten metal and evaluation of effect of porosity of welded joints on their service characteristics;
- structural transformations in the zone of welding and solution of the problem of producing joints equal in strength to the parent metal;
- determination of characteristics of service strength and reliability of welded joints, searching for methods of their improvement to the level of the parent metal.
